Belfield: A rich history

While Belfield's history of settlement dates as far back as the mid-19th century, it wasn't until the 1920s that the community really began to flourish. The City of Canterbury Council asserts that in 1920, the War Service Homes Commission acquired many acres of property in the area. Houses - mainly bungalows - were constructed as part of the War Service Homes Precinct to be occupied by servicemen returning from the First World War.

Today, the community blends these historic properties with newer dwellings constructed to accommodate a slight increase in population between 1996 and 2001.

While Belfield doesn't have a railway station, the area is well-serviced by buses - and as it is just 14 km away from the Sydney CBD, it's a quick commute to Central Station.
